Having two sides of the family means getting to celebrate all major events twice! Since Christmas fell on the Lord's Day this year, it was imperative that Jenny and I be here in Abilene to attend worship services. For this reason, coupled with the fact that I'm still on vacation from work, we decided we'd celebrate Christmas with Jenny's family before Christmas. Jenny had a quick doctor's appointment on Wednesday morning, but we left right after. Here are some pics of little man on the road. And no, we don't let our infant son ride without a car seat or seatbelt. Ha ha. These two were snapped when we were stopped at a gas station.

When we go visit Jenny's parents we always do our best to go to restaurants that we don't have in Abilene. One of our favorites is the burrito place Freebirds. They have great burritos that are really huge. They wrap them in foil and then one of Freebird's gimmicks is that many patrons make things out of their foil. Many of the foil creations are displayed all around the restaurant. I made this T-Rex below. We'll see if he's still waiting for me on the ledge next time we go through Denton.
Jenny made a heart, which she left on the railing and she also made Adrian this awesome bow tie, which we had to make him model, even if he was asleep.
Other than eating, shooting, and hanging out with family, Jenny and I were also blessed to have a little date night since Nana and Poppy were so generous to babysit for us. We decided to drive to Highland Village and go see Mission Impossible III. It was a fun movie and as much as we love our son, it's always nice to have a little alone time, just the two of us.
Of course that brings us to the main reason we made the trip (other than for Nana and Poppy and Grammy and Pa to love on Adrian) - to celebrate Christmas with the family! At this point, I have to admit that I really goofed up. I remembered to bring our camera with us, but I completely forgot to bring the memory card for the camera. Yup, that means exactly what you think it does - we had a camera that couldn't take any pictures, which is obviously a obsolete camera. Thankfully for us, we had our cell phone cameras, so all the pics are from my phone. While most of the pics were of decent quality, this is the reason that we didn't take as many pics as we would have liked. Anyway, here are our pics opening our gifts.

Here's Adrian sitting in his vibrating seat at his Nana and Poppy's house. He's really starting to take notice of his toys and you can see his intense focus on that monkey (even if he is a little cross-eyed).

Another great adventure we were fortunate to enjoy was to go to a gun range! Jenny and I have never been anti-gun people, but we've also never been those types that felt we needed an arsenal to protect us. However, with Jenny now staying home with Adrian and with my odd hours, we decided that we'd feel safer if we had a weapon in the house. Of course, we'd only feel safe if Jenny and I were completely comfortable using the gun, so we've made a couple of trips to a couple of gun ranges to learn proper gun safety and use. Here is Jenny shooting her dad's 9mm pistol.
And here's Jenny shooting her dad's 9mm carbine rifle.
Unfortunately, Jenny didn't get any video of me shooting, so you'll just have to take my word that I possess deadly accuracy. We both enjoy shooting the guns, and while we pray we'll never have to use them, I'm thankful that Jenny is willing to learn how to safely fire them.

From Carol, old lady in Florida:
Lovely family times and family! So happy for you and Jenny that you have this bundle of joy.
The ambivalence of Christmas I see in your blog. Accepting gifts and making gingerbread homes. No giving and no decorating because Jenny and you don't celebrate Christmas. Do your family feel unloved or awkward about that?
What was the December 25th worship experience like?
Have a blessed 2012 and for goodness sake, Andrew, are you going to ever get caught up with reading those promised books, or does life give you other priorities?
Dear gracious Lord,
Thanks so much for this lovely godly family and please guide Andrew with priorities as the head of his home. Keep them healthy in the New Year.
In Jesus' blessed name.
Amen.
We do give gifts. We bought/made small gifts for everyone in Jenny's family. On my side of the family, we draw a name each year, so we buy for one person and we have a budget limit, so no one can spend too much. Everyone in my family knows they are never obligated to give me anything, however they have all made it clear that they will be giving something, so I graciously and thankfully accept.
Lord's Day worship was wonderful! I taught Sunday School and then our pastor preached a sermon on Luke 2:21-40.
