Goals for 2012

Yesterday I reviewed my 2011 goals and saw that while I came up short on some, I did accomplish others. I think setting goals for oneself is a good thing, so as promised, here are my goals for 2012.

  • Be a better husband to Jenny - Yes, I am fully aware that this is the exact same goal I had last year, but I truly believe it will be a lifelong goal for me. I will never truly love and serve Jenny as I should, but I shall continually strive to bless her in our marriage.
  • Be a godly father to Adrian - In 2011, the Lord graciously blessed Jenny and I with a beautiful little boy. I take the responsibility of being a father extremely seriously. I believe it is a most high calling that God gives to men, right up there with being a husband. In order to be a godly father, I want to model godly behavior to my son, teach him the gospel and the word of God, and love him unconditionally, including lovingly disciplining him.
  • Be consistent with family devotionals - This goal directly plays off of my previous two. I fully believe that father's are called to lead their families in daily times with the Lord. Since Adrian has been born, we've been adjusting to life with a baby. Now that we are settling in, I have no excuse not to find a few minutes each day to sing, pray, and read scripture with my family.  I don't want a single day to pass where we don't do these.
  • Begin writing - I've long had aspirations to write a book, it just always seems like such a monumental task. I have some ideas that I think would make good books, I just am not sure if I'm the one to author them! I can't say that I'll write a book this year (or that I will ever) but I think this year I should at least start formulating some thoughts and getting them down on paper, er... screen.
  • Pray for others - I'd really like to revitalize my prayer life to better pray for my family, my church family, my friends, and those in need. I truly believe in the power of prayer (James 5:16) and I desire nothing more to see God glorified in the lives of those I love.
In a nutshell, those are some of my goals for 2012. As always, I know my blog readers will keep me accountable! I look forward to reporting back at the end of 2012, Lord willing, to update how I did.

Look good, Andrew. I am praying for you all on Fridays this year. Check my blog for prayer requests for my husband and I with his Alzheimer's if the Lord so leads you. Also contact me for input on your writing. I myself am working on another book.

Blessings to you and Jenny in 2012.

Great goals. Have you read the book, Ten P's in a Pod? It will encourage you in the family devotion area.
